The Retail Distribution Review

In a recent undercover investigation by Which?, just five out of 37 advisers in banks and building societies were found to have given good advice about investments. The majority of these advisers showed a poor understanding of the risks of investing and made misleading statements about the features and costs of available products.

The consumer magazine's findings have generated some publicity in the general community on RDR and the importance of good, reliable and truly independent advice. Now is therefore an ideal time either to strike up or renew communications with clients to demonstrate you are one step ahead and explain what RDR will mean for them.

Many, many small trees have been sacrificed in the name of the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) and yet, amid all the noise there is really just one simple question which you need to ask yourself.

‘Do I still plan to be in business on 1 January 2013?’

If the answer is ‘yes’ then everything else flows from there. As FP Advance’s Brett Davidson says, RDR can actually be viewed as the opportunity of a lifetime and the changes required, in reality, are simply good business practice.

In this section we have therefore brought together:

• some of the latest thinking from some of our industry’s experts
• details from our roundtable with three of the leading lights of the asset management
• the results of our survey of Marketing-hub.co.uk advisers
