The start of 2023 has already seen its fair share of highs and lows: thoughts of a ‘soft landing’ bolstered markets early in the quarter, only for that confidence to be eroded by problems in the US and European banking sector. Interest rates, inflation and geopolitics continue to dominate much of the broader debate, with the spectre of a global recession apparently looming. 

At times like these it could be easy to head for the hills. But, despite all of the challenges and risks, we believe there are still reasons for optimism.
